An affair to remember
Taking place in 5 cities across North America, The Underwear Affair is a 10K Run / 5K Walk to uncover cures for cancers below the waist. It’s a refreshing, new approach to raise funds for cancers that would otherwise be taboo to discuss. The Underwear Affair lifts that taboo by offering a context in which the participants, donors, and partners will be able to discuss and raise money for cancers below the waist without feeling embarrassed. Participants can wear everything from regular running wear to daring undies. At the end of the route, a big party with music and drinks awaits them, and awards are given.
Why those cancers?
Cancers below the waist impact more people than breast cancer, but only receive a fraction of the funding. These cancers are seen as taboo and, as a result, awareness and fundraising dollars for these cancers are 25 years behind breast cancer. Our plan is to catch up in the next 5 to 10 years.
Prostate, colorectal, bladder, ovarian and testicular cancers are perceived as awkward to discuss. By exposing these cancers through the Underwear Affair, we are opening the discussion and bringing much-needed funding to these diseases, and reaching out to younger fundraisers as well.
